Light as a guide

Lauren Collin, a young French visual artist, aged 27, who graduated from the ESAG Penninghen school of graphic arts in 2011, uses a scalpel to bring her materials to life and to sculpt paper.

“I started to be attracted to Japanese culture, and I rediscovered paper. It was to become my favourite material, my medium of expression.  My models are therefore architectural forms that are half-origami, half-organic.  I’ve abandoned my pencils to draw with a brand new tool, a box cutter. My drawings have gone from colour to white on white. “

The bas-reliefs she produces are made from a neutral medium, ARCHES® Watercolor paper, which she sculpts.

Light plays an essential role in reading the work, rendering certain parts visible whilst others are almost invisible.
