Sabine Ziegler: the magic of watercolour at the heart of Munich

Sabine Ziegler is a German artist whose pictorial universe is primarily expressed through the delicate art of watercolour. Based in Munich, where she lives and works, Ziegler has turned her preferred medium into a true playground where she can explore her emotions and impressions and the richness of the world around her.

Growing up in a family business specialising in paper wholesaling and office supplies naturally placed drawing and painting at the centre of Sabine’s life from a young age. This proximity to artistic materials and tools allowed her to develop a deep passion for watercolour – a technique she continued to explore and reinvent throughout her artistic journey.

Sabine Ziegler’s watercolours: an art of instinct and spontaneity

Sabine Ziegler’s pictorial universe is inspired by urban architecture and the inexhaustible abundance of nature. Animals, landscapes and cityscapes are regularly featured in her pieces. This wide variety of subjects allows her to evoke a range of atmospheres, where emotion takes centre stage over simple realism.
What really sets Sabine apart is her artistic approach to watercolour. For her, watercolour is more than just a medium for representation – it is a way to translate intuition and feeling. Refusing to limit herself to a faithful rendering of reality, she prefers to suggest and evoke, inviting the viewer to experience rather than simply observe.
The unpredictable properties of watercolour provide Sabine Ziegler with an endless field of exploration. She particularly enjoys letting randomness take its course, allowing water and colour to follow their own path on the paper, and then stepping in at just the right time to transform chance into something new. This balance of letting go and exercising control gives her pieces a unique expressive energy.
