Roland Palmaerts
Born in Brussels (Belgium) in 1953, Roland Palmaerts comes from a family of painters. At the age of 10, he won first prize in the national Tintin Competition. In 1980, he emigrated to Canada. Initially he worked as a designer and illustrator for large advertising agencies. After gaining a solid grounding in drawing and oil painting, for 20 years the artist made watercolour his main mode of expression. In October 2013, to celebrate his 60th birthday, Roland Palmaerts conducted a marathon paint-in in Arches (France), during which, in 60 hours of non-stop painting, he painted 60 metres of watercolour pictures.
