Joan Coch, a prolific and passionate artist

Joan Coch is a Spanish artist with innate artistic skills. As a child, he already showed astonishing creative abilities, which he would go on, on to continually develop throughout his career as a professional artist in different fields: architecture, interior decoration, visual arts, painting.

He is a graduate of the Manolo Hugué art school in Barcelona, which has its premises in the Llotja Palace (Spain).

Joan has been using ARCHES® papers from a very early age. He first discovered them in a fine art shop and noticed that the Arches paper mill has existed since 1492. He understood that this meant that the best artists of all time have used these papers and he decided to use them too. His favourite is the 300 gsm 100% cotton ARCHES® Aquarelle Rough paper, and he particularly favours rolls as they allow him to create very large works.

“It has a unique rough texture which always keeps its natural look. I especially like how it is uneven, it gives my work quality. Another thing I like about ARCHES® paper generally is its incredible ability to hold pigments and make them last over time.”

According to Joan Coch, a good artist must know the paper they work with perfectly. Because, once tamed, the paper will reveal what it is capable of and reward the artist with outstanding results that make the most of their work. The secret is not to be afraid of experimenting and to always try and discover all the potential that a quality paper offers.
