George Holz

George Holz was born in 1956 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He was an assistant and protégé of Helmut Newton, and credits him with mentorship and guidance that deeply influenced his career. As a young photographer, he lived in Milan and Paris, where he shot beauty and fashion for major European magazines such as Italian Vogue and French Elle. He moved to New York City, where he set up his famous studio on Lafayette Street, shooting fashion, advertising, and celebrity portraits for major publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair and In Style. Holz has won both Grammy and Clio awards for his photographs. His 2015 monograph, “Holz Hollywood: 30 Years of Portraits”, is a virtual who’s who in the world of film, music, television, sports, and politics, spanning three decades.
