Joël Cunin
Joël Cunin is a self-taught painter active since 1995. He works with charcoal, oil paint, pastel and sanguine crayon as well as doing wood carvings. “Getting into flesh of the drawing, working the canvas in a contemporaneity that draws on everyday, social concerns, transfigured through the bodies of the models and the subjects.” In his workshop, with or without a model, he seeks to get behind appearances. “Attempting to open up to the incarnation through colours, signs and light. Incarnation as defined by Saint Thomas Aquinas, as a mystery of the body, as much as a spiritual mystery.”
