Jeff Carter, a big-hearted artist
Jeff Carter is a self-taught artist who began to draw and paint for pleasure about seven years ago. He took watercolour lessons locally and online and watched tutorials on YouTube. But he was not progressing as he hoped. He then started sketching subjects he liked, to immortalise his memories by drawing the places he visits using mixed media techniques: felt tip pen and washes.

The pleasure he takes it in putting his subjects down on paper was clearly reflected in his pictures, and he started to feel a sense of personal satisfaction. And as a generous man, he wanted to share that pleasure. When he has drawn a cottage, a café or a house, he often knocks on the door and gives the picture to the owners.
“A good friend recommended ARCHES® papers about five years ago and that changed so many things. At the time I was using cheaper, poor quality paper and when I tried ARCHES® for the first time, the light and the rich, vibrant colours suddenly sprang out of my drawings. Now it’s the only paper I use and I always recommend it to my students. I use ARCHES® Aquarelle cold pressed paper for most of my sketches and ARCHES® Aquarelle hot pressed paper when I’m working with alcohol-based felt tip pens.”
Jeff Carter’s art is simple; he does not worry about whether the perspective is perfect, the colours are different or the lines not straight. He just wants people to look at his art and think “I could do that”; he wants to inspire them to draw so that they can experience the same joy, pleasure and friendship that he enjoys through art.
