Youri Messen-Jaschin
Youri Messen-Jaschin was born in Arosa in the Swiss canton of the Grisons on 27 January 1941. After studying at the fine art school in Lausanne, he left Switzerland to study in Paris and then Sweden. It was in Sweden that he discovered optical art. Since this transformative discovery, Youri has dedicated himself to Op Art, continually exploring new ways of captivating and thrilling his audience with optical illusions. Youri considers himself more researcher than artist as his fascination with neuroscience has led him to work with the CHUV (Vaudois university hospital) in Lausanne, Switzerland to attempt to better understand optical illusions and the effect they may have on our brain.
