Luca Brandi, a great minimalist artist!
Luca Brandi is an Italian artist born in 1961 in Florence, where he still lives. He started to take an interest in painting as early as the age of 9, when he began helping his teacher to paint icons in a number of churches in Florence. He studied with Paolo Galletti, from whom he learned the theories on the separation of the geometric form through paint and colour. After studying figurative and abstract art, he discovered a passion for minimalism. Today, his technique is based on the layering of metallic colours, creating a unique texture and inspiring a certain type of mood.
My paintings are a reflection of a soul travelling for centuries in search of its past love ... silence and beauty ... at the same time the viewer is invited to share this journey with his own soul...
To create his works, the quality of the medium is essential as it must withstand the passing of time. Luca Brandi uses only linen canvas and ARCHES® Watercolour heavy paper for his acrylic paintings. His favourite paper is ARCHES® Watercolour 850 gsm which he prepares with a large quantity of moulding paste. To create his works, the quality of the medium is essential as it must withstand the passing of time.
Sometimes I remove and sand the paint, to create an abstract effect and the atmosphere of passing time. This is one of the few papers on the planet that can withstand that demanding technique, whilst conserving its original form and light. The beauty of ARCHES® Aquarelle 850 gsm paper is comparable to that of the best linen canvas.
Luca Brandi shows his work in public spaces and art galleries in Italy and abroad, particularly the Galleria ZetaEffe in Florence, the Galerie Schiller Heidelberg in Germany and the Lucca Center of Contemporary Art.Luca Brandi shows his work in public spaces and art galleries in Italy and abroad, particularly the Galleria ZetaEffe in Florence, the Galerie Schiller Heidelberg in Germany and the Lucca Center of Contemporary Art.
