Xavier Casalta, stippler and stickler
Xavier Casalta is a young artist living near Sisteron in the South of France. He produces precise, delicate typographic works with extremely elaborate shading and contrasting effects. He uses the stippling technique, working with ink and 0.10 mm nibs, applying the dots after producing several preparatory sketches to find the right typographic effects and compositions that he is satisfied with.
“Autumn” was created on a 56 x 56 cm sheet of ARCHES® Watercolour 640 gsm cold pressed paper and contains just over 7 million tiny ink dots.
Started at the end of 2015, this piece took 370 hours of work. It is part of a series entitles “The 4 seasons”, which will be produced in collaboration with Swallows and Damsons.
