Rachel Patrick: bringing out the magic of everyday moments through painting

Rachel Patrick transforms familiar objects into vibrant scenes full of colour, joy and nostalgia. Self-taught, she discovered gouache painting during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then that she started painting every day, gradually developing her own distinctive style. After spending several years in London, Rachel moved back to Scotland, where she now works as a full-time artist. Her work puts a contemporary, playful spin on simple moments, celebrating their subtle beauty through pieces that feel warm, intimate and deeply personal.
An artist who transforms the ordinary
Rachel is known for her colourful, contemporary still life scenes that are teeming with life. Her work is inspired by bold colour palettes, everyday objects, and the quiet, often-overlooked details that nonetheless tell a story. Every painting celebrates the present moment, inviting us to slow down and appreciate the true beauty of the world around us.

Rachel Patrick’s aesthetic: colour, nostalgia and playfulness
Bursting with vibrant colour, Rachel’s paintings are characterised by bold, luminous shades with an almost irresistible richness that draws viewers in. They also feature vintage objects that bring a touch of nostalgia to her compositions. Rachel likes to turn the simplest of scenes – a piece of fruit on a table, for instance – into something quietly enchanting. Her signature style lies in playful compositions and a subtle interplay of shapes, shadows and colours that gives each painting a joyful, contemporary energy. Rather than simply depicting the world as it is, Rachel Patrick imagines it as it might be: happier, gentler and full of delightful surprises.

An artistic approach rooted in joy
Through each of her paintings, Rachel captures the small things that spark curiosity, tenderness and happiness within her. Her pieces thus offer glimpses of everyday life, showcasing precious moments where the ordinary is elevated into visual poetry. She invites viewers to see familiar things in a new light: a commonplace object becomes a treasure, while an everyday gesture becomes a scene to be contemplated.
When she is not in the studio, Rachel keeps her imagination alive by exploring new places and activities that reflect her naturally curious mind. She enjoys treasure-hunting in charity shops, looking for objects with stories to tell that might one day provide inspiration for a new painting. She often takes her sketchbook to coffee shops to capture ideas on paper, letting her thoughts flow into spontaneous drawings. She also spends a lot of time reading, or hanging out with Marley, her faithful four-legged companion who is always by her side. These simple moments provide inspiration for her work and deepen the intimate connection between daily life and artistic creation.
Both contemporary and nostalgic, her paintings encourage us to rediscover the world around us with fresh eyes. With her luminous colours and familiar objects, Rachel Patrick reminds us that even the smallest details can hold unexpected beauty.
