Alyse Dietel

Alyse Dietel is a self-taught artist from San Mateo, California. Drawing was originally just a hobby for her, as she was a professional rock climber. However, her life was turned upside down when she fell from a cliff during a hike in 2012, a near-death experience that left her in a wheelchair paralysed from the waist down. She threw herself into an intense exploration of her passion for drawing which enabled her to escape the reality of her lack of mobility. Her works feature nature, depicting wild landscapes and the fauna and flora. This fuelled a desire to go back and explore the mountains, and against all the odds, three years after her accident, she became a professional sponsored climber again. However, Alyse quickly realised that the world of sport climbing was no longer for her and so she decided to devote all of her time to her passion for art. Through her art she aims to raise public awareness of the need to preserve our natural environment and take action on the climate crisis.
